International Christmas guest in times of Corona
Dear international students – Will you spend Christmas alone and far away from your family for the first time? Or have you already been staying in Hamburg for some time and have spent Christmas alone in the past? Maybe you don’t celebrate Christmas in your home country, but you are interested in getting to know what Christmas is all about? Would you like to learn more about one of the most important festivities in Germany?
This year, due to special circumstances, we are unfortunately unable to offer our host service for international students in the traditional sense, which we regret very much. But as the saying goes - "Extraordinary situations require extraordinary measures". And so we have created a virtual space where international students can learn about Christmas traditions and customs and exchange information: The Christmas Café!
On the fourth Advent (Sunday, 20.12.20) at 3 pm you are therefore invited to join other students and us to get into the Christmas mood. We were also able to get some of the former hosts to join us and they certainly have many stories to tell.
If you are interested, please fill out the registration form and send it to weihnachtsgast@studierendenwerk-hamburg.de by 19.12.20. You will then receive all further information and the link for the Christmas Café. We are looking forward to seeing you!

Katholische Hochschulgemeinde (Catholic university community)
Extra-curricular programme for students from Africa, Asia and Latin America, Stube Nord
HOPIKOS – Inter-university project: intercultural skills for students
Homestay program for international students
Two-week homestay program for international students with German families: This intercultural experience is a great form of personal enrichment, for guests and the families alike.
Our partner is the not-for-profit association Experiment e.V., the German branch of a international organisation acting under the motto of:
“People learn to live together by living together“
Experiment e.V. seeks to promote exchanges among people of different origins to boost mutual understanding and respect.
If you are enrolled at a German university, university of applied sciences, or preparatory college and would like to see another side of Germany, Experiment e.V. gives you the chance to do this, financed by the Federal Foreign Office. Staying with a host family allows you to experience German culture up close and personally, make new friends, and improve your language skills. The host families are spread all over Germany. You should register no later than 8 weeks prior to your desired start date. Your share of the costs for a 14-day host-family stay is 40 € (including travel costs).
The Counselling Centre for Social & International Affairs arranges counselling services and enrolment for the Hamburg university for this programme (FAS).
