BMBF Bridging Aid for Students in Financial Emergency Situations starts again

The Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) supports students who are in a proven and current financial emergency due to the corona pandemic.

Again, emergency grants are available for the months from November 2020 until March 2021. The grants are allocated through the network of the local student service organisations – the Studentenwerke

Applications for the bridging aid can be submitted again from 20 November 2020, exclusively online.

Online application

The Studierendenwerk Hamburg is the point of contact for students enrolled at state and state-recognised universities in Hamburg.

Both domestic and foreign students who are enrolled at state and state-recognised higher education institutions in Germany can apply for the bridging aid. Students who are already drawing a loan, scholarship or similar in the month of reference can still receive a bridging aid in the event of financial hardship in accordance with the funding guidelines. Depending on proven need, between 100 and 500 euros can be paid as a non-repayable grant.
