Location – central & lush

The Sophie-Schoop-Haus in Neu-Allermöhe is located close to the city, with the S-Bahn (suburban railway) station (line S21 + S2) virtually on its doorstep. Various universities, the inner city and trendy districts are all within easy access. A supermarket, discount store and kiosk are just a few minutes’ walk away, while a number of other shopping options are just two S-Bahn stops away (in Bergedorf).
S-Bahn and various bus lines are great ways to travel.
The Sophie-Schoop-Haus combines inner-city living with canals, lakes and nature just around the corner. You’re also in close proximity to the Boberg Dunes, as well as the Vierlande and Marschlande regions.

Service – We’re there for you

Your house manager Is the soul of the property, your first point of contact when moving in – whether it be housing-related questions or problems – and is always ready to lend an ear. They will also attend to things like faulty taps (free repair service). They can be contacted by telephone, email or even in person at the service office.

Your welcome tutors Help you on your move-in day, give you tips on things ranging from the registration office to local shopping options, and organise welcome brunches and international evenings. They also live at the property, and will show you how everything works.

Chilling, studying, extras – It’s all there!

Study rooms Presentation preparation or study group? There’s enough space here for joint studying and working. Internet is of course also available.

Lounge & bar Relax in the lounge, party together in the cosy boar, have a great time, find new friends – this is where the property’s community meets.

Gym This is where you can make up for all that studying in lecture rooms and seminars.

Music room Whether it be violin, tuba or singing, you can practise here in soundproofed rooms – so you don’t disturb anyone, and you’re not disturbed yourself.

Garden, BBQ, canoe, etc. Summer in Hamburg? It does exist! Simply head out into the garden in front of the property, play table tennis, have a BBQ with fellow residents, or go for a canoe ride on the canal. Table tennis tables, BBQs, canoes – it’s all here.

Bike garage Your bike will be kept safe and dry here.

Self-service laundry Wash and dry clothes at low cost, in the convenience of the on-site self-service laundry. And anything that can’t go in the dryer can simply be hung up in the large drying room.

And more ... We can’t forget: Vacuum cleaners, which can be hired from the house manager.

Community – More than just living

Our properties have a close community, which organises events and keeps things interesting at all times. It’s where neighbours become friends, where you quickly build your social circle, and get to know people from other faculties and countries. Students and trainees love the cosmopolitan, tolerant atmosphere. Around 230 other students live in the Allermöhe residence next-door on the Neu-Allermöhe residential campus.

Join the community!

Environmental awareness

The residence is an “Efficiency House 40”, i.e. its energy requirements are 60% below the legal requirements. Energy efficiency is a key criterion when it comes to choosing lighting, heating pumps, kitchen appliances, etc..

Who was Sophie Schoop?

Sophie Schoop (nee Tisch) was born in Hamburg on 12/12/1875. The qualified accountant of Jewish faith was deported to Auschwitz on 23/1/1944, and murdered there on 3/1/1945. She stood up for French and Soviet prisoners of war. The residence is designed to be a place of meeting and international understanding in her memory.
