Service – We’re here to help

Your house manager
is the facility’s good soul, and your first port of call when you first move in if you have any questions or issues – they’ll always be happy to lend you an ear. They also attend to things like leaking taps (free repairs service). You can contact them by telephone, email or in person at their service office

Your welcome tutors
help you the day you move in, give you tips on anything from the local residents’ registration office to nearby shops, and organise welcome brunches and international evening events. They live at the residence themselves, and will show you what goes on at the property.

Chilling, studying, extras – we’ve got it all covered!

Container bar with maritime touch
You can switch off from everyday stresses, meet up with friends, party together and just have a good time in a maritime vibe. This is where the facility’s residents come together.

If the weather is lousy and you don’t feel like going outside to play sport, this is the perfect place to balance out all that time spent in lecture theatres and seminars.

Bike garage
A place to keep your bike safe and dry – every resident has a designated bike parking bay. The key card means only residents can access the garage.

Self-service laundry
Wash and dry your clothes at low cost in the convenient, on-site laundry, with washing machines and dryers.

Community – more than just a residence

Our residences are all about a strong sense of cohesion. The tight-knit community organises joint events to ensure things never get boring. You’ll be able to meet people from other faculties and all parts of the world, and make new friends. Students love the cosmopolitan, tolerant atmosphere at our residences. The Helmut Schmidt residence will be home to 128 students.

Be part of this community!

The residence is a low-energy facility, using 60% less power than the legal requirements. Energy efficiency is a key criterion when choosing lighting, heating pumps, kitchen appliances etc. And the 250-sq-m roof doubles as a garden.

Who was Helmut Schmidt?

The residence is named after Helmut Schmidt, who studied in Hamburg and never forgot his roots there, even when he became a nationally and globally recognised politician.
