Helping international students get off to a flying start in Hamburg

The Tutor Welcome Programme and the team of tutors

want to help international students get off to a flying start in Hamburg, facilitate their integration into the halls of residence and promote dialogue between international and German students.

We tutors want to make international students feel welcome here. To achieve this, we will support students on the day they move in and are available for contact before they travel here.

We will help you with questions

on accommodation, studying and working. We also offer help in the case of language problems, dealing with public authorities and can always be contacted for matters concerning the hall of residence.

Welcome tutors and Internet support staff are also there to help and assist with any Internet, email or Skype issues.

We are also curious

to hear more about the country of origin and culture of the international students.

Direct contact persons

Tutors are available at most of the halls of residence as direct contacts for international students. The tutors are very familiar with the questions and problems that international students have.

Please address general queries to the tutor programmes to tutoren@studierendenwerk-hamburg.de

Contact hours

The tutors offer contact hours at the respective halls of residence. This will give you the opportunity to seek advice and get the information you need from your own hall.

The tutors can be contacted by e-mail. International students can ask questions or make suggestions. The tutors will be happy to receive your e-mails.

Help in cases of intercultural conflicts

Living together with students from different cultures is not always free of conflict. Some problems arise due to misunderstandings, others through ignorance of other people’s cultural backgrounds and others because of stressful situations. The tutors and student organisations, together with the Studierendenwerk Hamburg, offer their help in the event of intercultural conflicts.

The Tutor Welcome Programme makes the new life in Hamburg easier and promotes integration into the Studierendenwerk’s halls of residence.
